The Challenge: Tracking Thousands of Assets Across Gates and Tarmacs
One of our clients, a major airliner, was looking to tag all of their luggage handling assets both inside the airport and outside on the tarmac.
The problem that they faced was that their luggage handling equipment contained bags heading to many different flights, and without proper labeling it was hard for operatives to track what needed to go to which flight, and which pieces of equipment were assigned to each gate.
Plus, since their equipment was found both inside and outside, and endured pretty heavy wear and tear from the demands of daily luggage loading and unloading, they needed a rugged solution that would hold up for a really long time.
Our Solution: Photo Anodized Aluminum Tags Built to Last 20+ Years
Originally, the client was using printed tags to keep their equipment labeled, and when their printer went down, they reached out to us for a more permanent solution.

These anodized aluminum tags are rated for 20+ years of use outdoors and are resistant to corrosion, abrasion, chemicals, weather, and UV rays. This made them perfect for tagging luggage handling assets since every single piece of equipment needed a different barcode/asset number, but also needed to last in the outdoor environment on plane tarmacs.
Because this project was for an asset tracking application, we worked closely with the client to ensure that none of the asset numbers were repeated or duplicated. We also confirmed that all of the barcodes we produced could be properly scanned by their systems, so we performed strict quality control on all of our art files and the finished products to ensure that they would be fully operational once attached to their assets.
The Outcome: Zero Duplicates, Fast Turnaround, and Long-Term Savings
Ultimately, the customer was exceptionally pleased with Metal Marker Manufacturing’s luggage handling tag solutions, benefiting from our quick turnaround time and quality control measures.
